Unstable engine speed: Unusually high air intake can make the W800’s speed fluctuates while riding. The engine takes longer to settle down: Normally, if you close the throttle, the engine’s RPM should fall. Also if the cable connectors at the battery have not been cleaned that also could cause electrical difficulties. Some owners also have reported dirty and insecure fuse connections. Heat will increase electrical resistance and a dodgy connection problem will make matters worse. Having issues with a 1996 Vulcan 800 Classic w/Cali emissions- carb keep running excessive fuel out into the air filter. Have put in new kit and needles. Float seemed OK. Dont know what else to do.

Most bikes would be about 15V at 5000 rpm, but you need to find the specs for your bike. It could be that the meter is off, though. You might want to check the voltage and the connection points with a multimeter to compare.

Start the bike and measure the voltage on across the same white wires and it should be 54V or more (250v scale).I have a 1999 Vulcan 800 Classic. came to me with a dead walmart battery, that had been dead for about two years as the bike sat in the weather. On the 1500, the service manul says a special tool is need to pull the spark plug tubes, but you can fashion a tool out of the rear axle nut and unscrew the tube. I'd bet the 800 is similar.
