You can take pact of the blade to use a great sword but then you can’t take pact of the chain which would get you the find familiar spell. I picked up Warlock on Level 2 and focused Bard after that to get an ASI asap, for beyond level 5 I think I'll go Warlock until I reach Warlock 3 to get Invocations and Pact of the Blade.
