Posted August 12, 2009. My first round baler was (and still is) a New Holland 847. For my small herd its adequate to make the 70 to 90 bales a year I need and the price was right ($1200). It makes a slightly smaller bale than the big ones and my little old Massey Super 90 handles that size well.The baler still rolls a good, well formed bale but seems to be stealing a bunch of horse power starting after making 1/4 to 1/3 of a bale. My tractor seems to struggle until the bale is almost full then seems to go away. I do bale on some steep ground but last year had no problems like this.
